Chapter 32 Solving the Trouble
Chapter 32 Solving the Trouble
The black market in the west of the city, in the afternoon.
Sunlight was fragmented by the towering, dilapidated buildings, spilling onto the dirty, chaotic streets.
Nightingale stood at the entrance of a three-story warehouse, with three people standing in front of her.
The leader was a burly man with a scarred face, a twisted scorpion tattoo on his bald head, and a blade of grass dangling from his mouth.
He is the head of the black market under Chen Tianxiong, nicknamed "Poison Scorpion," and a Sequence 8 Ironclad.
"Miss Nightingale." Scorpion grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth:
"You've already taken over the territory right after Master Chen left? Isn't that a bit too hasty?"
His two henchmen behind him also laughed, their eyes filled with hostility.
Nightingale's face remained expressionless, but she was rapidly calculating in her mind.
Scorpion is a Sequence 8, and so is she, but this is Scorpion's territory that he has been operating for many years, and there are at least twenty thugs in the warehouse.
It's not worth it to fight head-on; she needs time.
"Urgent?" Nightingale raised an eyebrow, her voice indifferent.
"With Master Chen dead, someone has to take over the territory."
The scorpion chuckled, spat the grass root on the ground, and ground it with its boot:
"Who do you think you are? When Master Chen was around, I was in charge of this place for him."
Now that Master Chen is gone, this place should rightfully be mine!
Although the black market wasn't the most lucrative place, the way the merchants groveled for a living pleased Scorpion.
In this place, he was the local tyrant, able to wield his power to the fullest extent, smashing and threatening, and no one dared to disobey him; if anyone did, he would be severely beaten.
He would snatch any woman he fancied, play with her and then let her go; if she disobeyed, he would kill her.
Now that Nightingale wants to take over the black market, this has touched a nerve with Scorpion, who is now determined to kill her.
Nightingale's eyes also turned cold: "So, you're not planning to hand it over?"
"Hand it over?" Scorpion laughed loudly.
"Fine, kneel down and lick my shoes clean. If you do, I'll consider making you my second-in-command."
As he spoke, he lifted one foot, his dirty boot almost touching Nightingale's leg.
But the nightingale easily dodged it.
On the surface, Nightingale was arguing with Scorpion, but in reality, her cell phone in her pocket was always on a call.
Twenty minutes earlier, Lin Yu had been petting the cat while checking out the situation here.
Nightingale knew that Lin Yu was already on his way, and now all she had to do was stall for time.
Then she looked up at Scorpion: "Do you really think that just because Chen Tianxiong is dead, no one can control you?"
Scorpion's face darkened: "What do you mean?"
"What I mean is..." Nightingale said slowly.
"Chen Tianxiong was able to maintain his position in Jiangcheng because of his strength. Although I am not strong, I have... someone behind me."
The scorpion narrowed its eyes: "Who's behind you?"
The nightingale didn't answer, but simply glanced at the time.
almost.
Footsteps sounded outside the warehouse, the door was pushed open, and Lin Yu walked in.
He was dressed in plain clothes and looked like an ordinary passerby, but when his eyes swept across the warehouse, Scorpion and his men felt a strange chill.
The nightingale's eyes lit up when it saw Lin Yu.
She walked over and naturally took Lin Yu's arm, leaning her body slightly against him.
Their actions were intimate, showing obvious dependence.
"Why are you so late?" Her voice softened, no longer as cold and hard as before.
Lin Yu glanced at her, said nothing, and turned his gaze to the scorpion.
Scorpion also looked Lin Yu up and down. He was very young, and apart from being exceptionally handsome, he didn't seem to have anything special about him.
But Nightingale's attitude made him uneasy: "Who are you?"
Lin Yu didn't answer, but raised his hand and fired a shot.
Before Scorpion could react, a burst of blood erupted from his knee, and he screamed as he collapsed to his knees.
Just as his two henchmen behind him were about to move, Lin Yu fired two more shots.
Boom!
Both men's wrists were pierced, and their weapons fell to the ground.
The whole process took less than three seconds.
Scorpion knelt on the ground, clutching his bleeding knee, his face deathly pale.
"You, you dare to touch me?! I'm Sequence 8! Master Chen's man!" Scorpion shouted instinctively.
Lin Yu walked over and stomped on his face: "Chen Tianxiong is dead."
His voice was calm, but every word pierced the heart of a scorpion like an icicle.
"Now, this territory belongs to Nightingale. Do you have a problem with that?"
The scorpion's face was trampled on the ground, its lips rubbing against the dirty floor.
He tried to resist, but Lin Yu's feet pressed down on him like a mountain, making it impossible for him to move.
"I...I'll hand it over! I'll hand over everything! The ledgers! The invoices! The staff list! They're all in my office! I'll go get them right now!"
Lin Yu didn't speak, he just looked at Nightingale.
Nightingale released her grip on his hand and walked up to Scorpion: "Lead the way."
Scorpion stood up tremblingly and limped as he led the two men deeper into the warehouse.
The office is on the second floor of the warehouse.
Scorpion opened the door, revealing a room piled high with various documents and ledgers.
He opened the drawer and took out a thick stack of booklets:
"They're all...all here."
Nightingale took it and flipped through a few pages.
Then, looking at Lin Yu with a pitiful expression, he said, "He just said that I have to kneel and lick his boots."
The scorpion turned deathly pale with fright.
"I...I was wrong! I was really wrong! Please forgive me!"
"I'm still useful! I've raised a catastrophic monster in the basement! I can sell it for a fortune!"
Lin Yu raised an eyebrow. "A catastrophic monster?"
"Yes! Yes!" the scorpion cried, grasping at a straw.
"Captured three years ago in a crypt outside the city, and kept in the basement ever since! A Sequence 8 'Corpse Vine,' capable of secreting corrosive liquid and parasitizing and controlling corpses!"
Lin Yu thought for a moment: "Lead the way."
The scorpion breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it had a chance to survive.
He led the two downstairs to a heavy iron door at the very back of the warehouse, took out his key, opened the door, and revealed a staircase leading downwards.
A putrid smell rose up from below.
"It's...it's right down there."
Lin Yu went down first.
The basement was large and filled with a strong, rotten smell.
In the corner was a huge iron cage, inside which a tangled clump of dark green vines coiled.
The vines were as thick as an adult's arm, their surface covered with pus-filled bumps that constantly oozed a thick, foul-smelling liquid.
Several skeletons were scattered around the cage, and two corpses were stored in the gastric juices of the rotting vine. The larger one was tightly holding the smaller one, so they were probably a mother and child, and were obviously thrown in as animal feed.
Carrion Vine.
A common mutated plant after a catastrophe, it likes to parasitize corpses and grows by absorbing decaying flesh and bone marrow.
This monster is dangerous; it will drag people away if they get within 5 meters, but it is very useful for dealing with corpses.
Lin Yu frowned slightly and raised his hand to fire a shot.
The gambler's revolver struck the core of the vine with pinpoint accuracy.
The corpse vine writhed violently, its pustules ruptured, and it sprayed out a large amount of corrosive liquid.
Lin Yu sidestepped.
The liquid splashed on the ground, corroding holes and making a hissing sound.
The Corpse Vine tried to resist, but Lin Yu didn't give it a chance.
Bang bang bang!
Three shots in a row, all hitting the core.
The vines moved slower and slower until they stopped moving altogether, and the fluid in the abscess ceased to seep out.
However, Lin Yu couldn't laugh; his eyes grew even colder.
Upon seeing this, the scorpion knelt on the ground, kowtowing repeatedly.
"Spare me...spare me...I've given you everything, I know I was wrong..."
"You don't know you're wrong, you just know you're about to die."
Without another word, Lin Yu pulled out his dagger and began stabbing the scorpion repeatedly.
Using a gun to deal with this kind of person is too lenient.
A few minutes later, the scorpion stopped breathing.
Lin Yu sheathed the dagger and looked at Nightingale: "Clean up the scene. Drag the body out so the people outside can see it."
The nightingale nodded.
The two returned to the ground.
The vendors and poor people were still gathered at the warehouse entrance.
They were stunned when they saw Lin Yu dragging out the corpse of the poisonous scorpion.
Lin Yu threw the body at the door and dusted off his hands.
He then pulled out his police badge and flashed it.
"I am Lin Yu, a second-level detective from the police station. Poison Scorpion was suspected of illegal detention, raising catastrophic monsters, and oppressing civilians. He has now been shot dead."
From this day forward, this black market will be under the control of Ms. Nightingale.
Lin Yu paused, his gaze sweeping across the crowd.
These vendors and poor people were mostly emaciated, dressed in tattered clothes, and their eyes were filled with numbness and fear from years of oppression.
"Those who wish to stay can do business according to the rules; those who do not wish to can leave now."
The crowd was silent for a few seconds, then some people started clapping.
The applause was sparse at first, but then grew louder and louder.
Those street vendors who have been oppressed by scorpions for years, those poor people who are forced to pay exorbitant protection fees, those parents who are forced to sell their children...
In their eyes, there was awe, gratitude, and hope.
Nightingale stood beside Lin Yu, watching this scene, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes.
Having followed Chen Tianxiong for so many years, she has witnessed far too much oppression.
This is the first time I've ever been looked at with such gratitude.
Lin Yu turned to Nightingale and said, "The rest is up to you. After you've finished dealing with this, go to Su Wan's place. I'll be waiting for you."
The nightingale nodded: "Understood."
Lin Yu didn't say anything more and turned to leave.
The crowd automatically parted to make way.
He crossed the street, got back into his car, and drove towards Su Wan's apartment.
