Chapter 1250 - 1039: Refusing to Be Oppressed
"You lied to me?" Realizing she might have been deceived, Ye Meng confronted Ye Qiu, "That post wasn’t actually by you, was it?"
Ye Qiu looked at her with amusement, "And what if it was? What if it wasn’t? What can you do to me?"
Ye Meng’s eyes turned red with anger; how could Ye Qiu remain so calm? Does she know how much money Ye Meng lost? It was all because Ye Qiu lied to her.
"What do you want to do?" Ye Qiu stepped back, "There are cameras everywhere here, you don’t want to be taken away by security or the police, do you?"
"You’re so heartless, after all these years as sisters, you’ve never once considered my feelings. Do you know what I’ve been through recently?" Ye Meng exploded, never having faced so many setbacks from childhood until now: first being publicly denounced at school, then her mom being cursed at, her dad getting arrested, and now losing three thousand dollars for no reason.
And all of this was caused by Ye Qiu, whom she despised, leaving her unable to comprehend it.
Thinking of how Ye Qiu had been eating, living, and using her family’s things since childhood yet still treated her this way, and having no means to retaliate, Ye Meng felt both overwhelmed and wronged.
"How can you treat me like this? I’m your sister! Why do you think it’s unfair, why do they criticize me this way? Haven’t we lived like this since childhood?" She shouted.
Ye Qiu slowly put away her smile, her expression turning serious and cold, "So you think it’s only natural to treat me like before? You question why they criticize you, but why should I endure being your servant?"
"You’re adopted by my family, shouldn’t you listen to me? Everything you have was given by my parents!" Ye Meng stated, as if it were obvious.
"You’re right, your parents did adopt me, but does that family have anything to do with me? Did I ever feel the warmth of family in that house? You say I ate, lived, and used your family’s things but don’t forget I did a lot of work at your house since childhood. Didn’t I give your parents money?"
Ye Qiu looked at her mockingly, "Even hiring a maid costs money, right? And here I am, not only a live-in maid, I was also subject to abuse by you and your parents. How am I any different from a slave in your house? I never owed your family anything; rather, you owe me. If time could be reversed, I’d rather not be adopted by your parents."
It was the first time Ye Meng heard such words from Ye Qiu, not only was she shocked by Ye Qiu’s words, but also overwhelmed by her aura, leaving her speechless.
"Ye Meng, don’t talk about being my sister; have you ever considered me your sister? Have you ever called me sister? Think back to how you treated me as a child. Put yourself in my shoes, if you were me, would you willingly devote twenty years to a family that abused you?"
No.
Ye Meng didn’t even need to think; she knew the answer. If she were to switch places with Ye Qiu, she probably wouldn’t last even a day.
But life’s not hypothetical; she’s the biological child, how could it be the same with an adoptive one like Ye Qiu?
Ye Qiu could tell just from Ye Meng’s expression that she felt no remorse. Indeed, how could a person, accustomed to selfishness, empathize with others?
"I don’t want to waste words with you, Ye Meng. I feel no guilt towards your family, nor do I care about your actions because they cannot affect me in any significant way. If you wish to continue causing trouble, feel free, but I won’t tolerate you as I did in the past. Make up your mind." After finishing, Ye Qiu left coldly, not giving Ye Meng any chance to act out.
Ye Meng stayed motionless for a while, confirming that Ye Qiu had indeed changed—not just her personality, but also her aura. Until twenty years ago, Ye Qiu bore with it; now standing before her, Ye Meng dared not meet her gaze, let alone refute her words.
How could she not know the grievances Ye Qiu bore at home? If it were the old Ye Qiu, even knowing full well, Ye Meng could oppress her without psychological burden; now, she didn’t even have the courage to resist.
Ye Qiu had truly changed, to the point she wasn’t recognizable at all; she should have realized this fact after being hit the last time.
Ye Qiu’s abilities had grown stronger, unwilling to suffer any longer. If she intended revenge, neither Ye Meng nor her parents would have any way to cope.
When did this all start? How was it so sudden? What had Ye Qiu been through? When did she become so formidable? Where did she get such courage?
Ye Meng couldn’t wrap her head around it; she felt indignant but utterly powerless, her anger almost causing her to spit blood.
"You’re her heartless and dim-witted sister?" A cold female voice suddenly emerged, causing Ye Meng to look up angrily.
"Who are you? What’s it to you?" She retorted fiercely.
"Who am I? I’m someone who hates Ye Qiu just as much as you do." Xie Lizzi laughed gleefully at her, "Want to team up?"
"What’s your intention?" Ye Meng asked cautiously.
"I’ve said it; I hate Ye Qiu just like you do. We share a common goal, don’t we? You want face and money, right? I can give you both."
"You intend to use me against Ye Qiu?"
Xie Lizzi chuckled softly, "Not so stupid, after all."
Ye Meng’s eyes flickered, "Do you trust me so easily? Aren’t you afraid I’d mess things up?"
"Of course not. Do you know who your family recently paid a large sum of compensatory money to? Do you know whose fault it was your dad lost his job?"
"You’re Xie Lizzi?" Ye Meng exclaimed in shock.
"That’s right. Now, do you realize we should be allies? Let’s team up. I can give you everything you want, but you must agree to work for me."
"I can help you deal with Ye Qiu, but what can you give me?"
"A diploma, a job, money; are those enough?" Xie Lizzi sneered.
Ye Meng found her expression very distasteful, but the offer was highly tempting, especially since Ye Qiu was now disobedient. Where would she get money in the future?
Rather than being constantly on guard against Ye Qiu, it might be better to strike first. Since Ye Qiu was heartless, she couldn’t blame Ye Meng for being merciless.
"You must deliver, but on one condition: I won’t do anything illegal." Ye Meng remained rational.
Xie Lizzi scoffed, "You want to break the law, but I don’t want to go to prison either. Don’t worry, I’ll only ask you to apologize to Ye Qiu and admit your faults, treating her better in the future."
"You want me to treat her well, only to use her heartlessness against her later?" Ye Meng felt she had guessed the truth.
Xie Lizzi snorted coldly, "You’re quite perceptive. Have you made your decision?"
"Of course. I know what’s best for me."
